Criminologist Ademi sounds the alarm after three family murders: We are in a deep crisis of values

The series of murders that have shaken Kosovo in recent days have prompted security experts to raise their voices. Criminologist Mensut Ademi assesses that these tragedies within families are the consequence of a deep crisis of social values and warn of the risk of even greater disorganization of society.

Speaking on Five, Ademi emphasized that the source of the problem lies in the consciousness of the people and in the way children are raised in families, adding that the cold months could further worsen the situation.

“As a society, we have fallen into a crisis of social values… the time and characteristics as we move toward winter, in criminological terms, are those characteristics of depression. But we have been in a deep family depression within families. Based on this, we have also seen the mistakes of our steps as a society, what the criteria and characteristics of the consciousness of our people are. When I say the people, I mean family upbringing,” he declared.

According to the criminologist, every murder within a family should be treated as an alarm signal for the entire society, because if values and family upbringing do not change, the escalation of such cases may continue.

“So far we have had murders within families and we are still not mature as a society, but it is a warning that we are heading toward disorganization, where we could have murders between brother and sister, mass murders in families,” said Ademi.

His comments came immediately after three serious cases of family murders reported within just a few days in Kosovo: in one of them, a man is suspected of taking the lives of his wife and her brother, while in another, a father is suspected of killing his own son.
