A strong earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale was recorded on Friday near Puerto Madero in the Mexican state of Chiapas, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
According to USGS data, the earthquake’s epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, or about 6.2 miles.

Following the earthquake, the U.S. National Weather Service’s Tsunami Warning System (NOAA) issued two tsunami warnings for coastal areas of Mexico and Guatemala near the epicenter.
