According to CENTCOM’s statement, on July 16 US forces destroyed the surveillance tower at the Chah Bahar Shahid Kalantari port. According to the United States, it was part of a maritime surveillance network used for decades by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to monitor and target commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US military said that eliminating the facility limits the IRGC’s ability to coordinate attacks against commercial vessels and is intended to ensure freedom of navigation in the area.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted a photograph from the moment of the strike on platform X, along with the message: “Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz.”

The operation was part of the sixth wave of US strikes against Iranian targets, which US authorities say have focused mainly on infrastructure in southern and southwestern Iran.
