An attempt to unlawfully transfer ownership of 21 real estate properties has been prevented in Mitrovica following a joint investigative and operational action by the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica and the Kosovo Police.
According to the announcement, the suspects intended to complete the procedures to obtain notarized documentation, which would have enabled the sale of properties registered in another person’s name.

The investigation so far indicates a well-founded suspicion that those involved used a forged identification document, along with other supporting documents, in order to prepare and certify a notarized power of attorney. The legitimate owner of the 21 properties is suspected of having been unaware of and not having consented to this action.
The prosecution said that the forged document contained the property owner’s personal details, but the photograph belonged to another person. This person is suspected of having been prepared to appear before the notary under a false identity and sign the authorization.
The procedure was halted before the notarial act was completed after discrepancies were found in the identification details during the document check. These differences raised doubts about the authenticity of the documentation submitted to the notary.
Three people have been arrested and interviewed in connection with the case. By decision of the State Prosecutor, they were ordered detained for forty-eight (48) hours.
During a search of the property of one of the suspects, authorities found and seized a large number of property documents, civil status documents, copies of identification documents, contracts and other materials issued in the names of various individuals.
