Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha has reacted on social media regarding yesterday’s violence at the protest. According to him, the protest began with idealism and vision and risks turning into irresponsible acts and violence.
He stresses that democracy, freedom and rights are not given, but earned through sacrifice and responsibility. Hoxha sees young people as the driving force behind the vision for “Albania 2030,” a country that is more democratic, more developed and part of the European Union.

“From flamingos to the coffin.
From protecting the environment to a public trial.
From civic concern to irresponsibility.
From peaceful protest to violence.
From the vision of a New Albania to the return of a déjà vu Albania — old, outdated and unacceptable.
Quo vadis?
Democracy, freedom and rights are not given.
They have been won through effort, sacrifice and responsibility. They are the fruit of dialogue, not intimidation; of wisdom and social maturity, not imposition.
