University Employees’ Union Supports 47th Protest: Government Must Meet Five Demands

A professor, who is also a representative of the University Employees’ Union, declared his support for the 47th citizens’ protest, which is also attended by students.

He said that the faculty and the union have aligned themselves with the protest, which, according to him, seeks a “European Albania.” The representative called on all students to join the gathering, which he described as a civic and peaceful movement.

According to the professor, the five demands put forward by the protesters are among the most important issues for the country, and the government should therefore take them into account and fulfil them. He also stressed the need for greater transparency in order to reduce corruption.

Addressing education and healthcare, the union representative stated that fields such as medicine and engineering should not be left in private hands, but should remain the responsibility of the state.

He also criticised the quality and operation of some private universities, calling for state institutions to carry out stricter oversight of them.

The professor claimed that a private university was granted the right to award doctorates before the public university solely because its head is connected to the party. He also spoke of a party owner who owns two private universities.

In conclusion, the representative of the University Employees’ Union urged the government to “come to its senses,” inspect the universities he described as “kiosks,” and transfer their students to public universities.
