Today Marks Day 54 of the Popular Protest as Citizens Move to Parliament: They Do Not Represent Us

Today marks the 54th day of the citizens’ protest, but unlike on previous occasions, the demonstration will begin at 08:30. Parliament is convening for the final plenary session of its current term before returning for the new session in September.

Speaking from the protest podium last night, the organizers announced and called on citizens to gather first in Skanderbeg Square at 08:30 today, before marching toward Parliament, where the plenary session begins at 10:00.

They also announced that Parliament is expected to pass numerous laws today, including the Mountains Package, and said they would not allow MPs to vote for them because Albania is being sold off.

It was also announced that the protest would include action involving MPs being pelted with eggs or flour. Protesters will therefore lie in wait for them at the entrance to the institution, despite police measures.

This will be one of several citizens’ protests held outside Parliament. MPs and vehicles have previously been pelted with eggs and flour, while there have also been confrontations with police, who have used violence against citizens.
