This Wednesday, the National Association of Judges of the Republic of Albania reacted to the decision of the Shkodër Regional Council regarding the granting of the “Martyr of the Homeland” status to slain judge Astrit Kalaja.
In its statement, the association said it has followed the issue closely and considers it one of the clear and unanimous requests of the Judges’ Conference, held on October 9, 2025.

The judges welcomed the decision of the Shkodër Regional Council, describing it as an important step toward completing the administrative procedure for the recognition and awarding of this status.
The National Association of Judges also called on the other responsible institutions to finalize as quickly as possible the process of recognizing and granting the “Martyr of the Homeland” status to Judge Kalaja, who was killed on October 6 while on duty.
According to them, this is the proper and lawful treatment for any person who loses their life in the course of carrying out their duty.
