Over the past 24 hours, police detained 18 drivers at various locations across the country on suspicion of the criminal offense of “careless driving,” provided for under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code, the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia announced.

According to police, 17 of them were caught driving vehicles without having passed the driving test. They are M.R. (19), B.F. (24), Xh.S. (24), F.S. (33), A.L. (25), S.B. (25) and G.Gj. (34), all from Skopje; Sh.O. (31) from the village of Haraçinë, in the Skopje area; A.R. (25) from the village of Batincë, in the Skopje area; S.A. (33) from the village of Studeniçan, in the Skopje area; a 17-year-old from the village of Stajkovc, in the Skopje area; S.A. (19) from Tetovo; R.B. (32) from Kumanovo; A.B. (24) from Kičevo; P.S. (38) from Bitola; a 15-year-old from Probištip; and P.Gj. (19) from Veles, who caused a traffic accident.
Police also detained O.V. (27) from Makedonska Kamenica after determining that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The Ministry of Interior said that, once the cases have been documented, the relevant criminal charges will be filed.
The authorities called on all road users to comply with traffic rules and regulations. The Ministry of Interior urged people not to drive without having passed the driving test, while a driving ban is in effect, or under the influence of alcohol, emphasizing the need for a joint contribution to improving road safety.
