Following the elections in Bërvenicë, VLEN co-chair and mayor of the Municipality of Çair, Izet Mexhiti, called for political tensions to be eased and for dialogue and cooperation to be prioritized.
In a Facebook post, he described inflammatory statements made during the campaign, as well as the polarizing positions expressed last night and today after the elections, as “political folklore.” Mexhiti stressed that the electoral process is over and that citizens freely expressed their will through their votes.

According to him, votes are not the property of any political entity. He also criticized the stance of opposing everyone, describing it as an approach that does not lead to success and sooner or later creates disappointment.
Mexhiti said that in multiethnic democracies there should be no division between “us” and “them,” as such a distinction implies inequality and a tendency to suppress the other. He described dialogue and cooperation as essential conditions for any society to function and as an obligation for all social actors in multiethnic settings.
Referring to post-election reactions, he said there is no reason to focus on justifications and interpretations presented to citizens whenever results fail to meet someone’s expectations. Citizens decide through their votes, while politicians, according to Mexhiti, must take responsibility for their positions and actions.
