However, Moscow has signaled that the proposed trilateral meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed at restarting negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, continues to face difficulties.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a meeting of the three leaders would make sense only if it allowed agreements reached in advance to be formalized.
He said the meeting would have no value if it were used to open new discussions on the details of the agreements. According to Peskov, Kyiv is not prepared to commit to reaching a lasting settlement.
At the same time, Russia has warned that the situation on the ground could escalate.
Senior Kremlin officials, cited by the Russian news agency TASS, said Moscow was preparing to launch “massive attacks” against Ukraine’s energy facilities.
According to claims by the Russian side, these attacks would be carried out in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on civilian targets in Russia.
