The decision was taken during the seventh meeting of the Kosovo government, following a request submitted by the Albanian National Council on October 6, 2026.
The news was welcomed by KKSH Chairman Enkel Rexhepi, Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament Shaip Kamberi, and Preševo Mayor Ardita Sinani. All three expressed gratitude for Kosovo’s continued support for the Albanians of the Valley.
Enkel Rexhepi announced that the issue of funding for the Albanian National Council had been brought up for consideration for the third time, following blockages imposed by Serbia in January and August.
According to him, the KKSH will continue its efforts to ensure that the money reaches the beneficiaries. The financial support covers 129 projects and four programs.
The programs include providing students with free books, offering vocational training to young people, supporting the functioning of the Albanian National Council, and advocating for the rights of Albanians in Preševo, Bujanoc and Medvegjë.
Rexhepi warned that obstructing these funds directly affects students, young people, organizations and the institutional functioning of the Albanian community.
He thanked Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the Kosovo government for their commitment and persistence, emphasizing that the KKSH would follow the process through to the full implementation of the support.
Shaip Kamberi, chairman of the PVD and an Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, also reacted to the decision. He described the third review of the issue as evidence of the determination to guarantee support for the Albanians of the Valley.
Kamberi criticized the Serbian authorities, stating that Serbia funds Serbs in Kosovo while obstructing funds allocated by Kosovo for Albanians in Preševo, Bujanoc and Medvegjë.
He also referred to statements made by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in the Serbian Parliament on September 13, 2022. According to those statements, between €700 million and €820 million is allocated for Kosovo every year.
MP Kamberi emphasized that the KKSH’s 129 projects and four programs have clear objectives and designated beneficiaries.
“Support for citizens cannot be considered a right for one side and treated as a threat when it is intended for Albanians,” Kamberi wrote, calling for the implementation of standards and equal treatment.
He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Kurti and the Kosovo government, while stating that the effort would continue until the funds reached the beneficiaries.
Preševo Mayor Ardita Sinani linked the financial support for 2026 to the direct needs of residents of the Preševo Valley.
Sinani said the funds would help provide books for children, create opportunities for young people and implement projects in the interests of Albanians.
She emphasized that blocking the funds deprives citizens of important opportunities, particularly those most in need of support. According to her, the Municipality of Preševo will continue cooperating with the Albanian National Council to ensure that the funds reach the Albanians of the Valley.
“Our citizens should not remain hostage to blockages,” Sinani declared, thanking the Kosovo government.
She concluded her reaction with the message that Preševo and the Valley are not alone.
The funds approved by the Kosovo government are intended to ensure the institutional functioning of the KKSH and the implementation of projects serving the Albanian community in Preševo, Bujanoc and Medvegjë.
