According to the minister, on October 23, just two days before the killing, the chief prosecutor had also received written information about a direct threat to kill, reported by Arlinda Zekaj and attributed to Albert Sylaj.
Gërvalla stressed that Arlinda Zekaj was not killed without warning, as the institutions were aware of the danger threatening her life.
Her reaction followed a report by the Ministry of Justice, presented on October 30 by Gërvalla and Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla. The document addressed the actions and inactions of the institutions in connection with the case.
The findings made public by the minister showed that, although there was information about the danger facing the victim, the responsible prosecutor had refused to open a case for threats.
The report also mentioned shortcomings in the way the matter was handled by several other institutions.
Two prosecutors have been suspended in connection with the case: Peja Chief Prosecutor Lumturije Vuçetaj and prosecutor Arlinda Nallbani-Gacaferi.
Meanwhile, another letter from Arlinda Zekaj, addressed to Migjen Kastrati, a judge at the Basic Court in Peja, was published today.
The letter, dated September 7, 2026, reflected her concerns about her personal safety and that of her child, while asking that matters related to the child’s protection and custody be addressed.
Zekaj had sent the judge a direct message, underscoring the weight that decisions by the justice institutions had on her life.
“For you, it is routine; for me, it is life, and only God knows why He chose you to save lives,” the deceased woman had written.
The killing of Arlinda Zekaj, which occurred on October 25 in Vitomiricë, Peja, has prompted numerous reactions and calls for institutional accountability, particularly regarding the handling of her warnings and requests for protection.
