Filipçe announces new initiative for a €600 minimum wage

Venko Filipçe, leader of SDSM, announced today that the party’s parliamentary group will once again submit a bill next week to raise the minimum wage in Macedonia. The initiative proposes increasing the current amount from 26,000 denars to 36,000 denars, or €600.

Speaking to the media from Parliament, Filipçe stressed that the budget contains sufficient funds to implement the measure. According to him, private entities could also be subsidized for health and pension insurance contributions above the current minimum wage threshold.

The SDSM leader insisted that the funds needed to raise the minimum wage are available.

Filipçe said it would be enough for the government to forgo luxuries, including the purchase of a new government aircraft, to secure the money without difficulty. He added that this would help improve citizens’ living standards to some extent, particularly ahead of the autumn and winter, when monthly expenses increase significantly.
