Residents and farmers of the “Dardania” neighborhood in Tetovo have been facing difficulties and danger for months whenever they need to reach their plots, as one of the highway underpasses remains closed. Works on rehabilitating the two underpasses began in the spring but have yet to be completed. To avoid the dangerous crossing over the Skopje-Gostivar highway, residents are forced to take a route about 1.5 kilometers longer. They are calling on municipal authorities to finish the intervention as soon as possible.

“Crossing here is extremely dangerous. The road needs to be finished as soon as possible so we can get to our fields. We don’t know where to cross. Getting onto the highway is forbidden, and this road has been closed for four months. Many people can’t reach their land and have left it uncultivated because of this situation.”
Another resident says the closure of the underpass has forced him to take a much longer route. “We absolutely need this road, because we have no other alternative. Because of it I have to make a big detour. It has been closed for more than two months.”
The Municipality of Tetovo states that works are continuing in line with the plan set by the contractor, but has not announced a concrete deadline for the completion of the entire project.
“According to the information we have, works on the stormwater drainage system in the ‘Dardania’ neighborhood are proceeding according to the schedule foreseen by the contractor. A few days ago the connection was made with the main pipe on the road leading to the village of Zhelina, while the penetration under the Skopje–Gostivar highway was also carried out. In addition to the stormwater drainage, work was also done on the water supply network pipeline in this segment, improving water supply for residents of the area,” said Besarta Ramadani.
Both underpasses have been considered problematic for passersby for years. On rainy days, up to three vehicles a day were damaged due to accumulated water. During filming carried out today on site, no excavator or worker was seen carrying out works. The bad weather conditions could further complicate the implementation of the project, as excavations must reach a depth of over five meters./TV21/
