Police detained 19 drivers in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours. All are suspected of committing the criminal offense of “careless driving,” as stipulated under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code.

Among those detained are 10 people who were driving under the influence of alcohol: M.R. (24) from Skopje and the surrounding area, N.K. (23) from the vicinity of Demir Hisar, H.T. (20) from Bitola, F.A. (24) from Kumanovo, S.I. (33) from the Kumanovo area, Z.L. (49) from Sveti Nikole, G.S. (45) from Delčevo, G.Ç. (48) from Kavadarci, 26-year-old K.R. from Kavadarci and 34-year-old Z.B.P. from Veles.
In addition, eight drivers were caught behind the wheel even though they had not passed their driving test. They are S.V. (47) and M.J. (23), from Skopje, B.I. (20) from the village of Dračevište, in the Skopje area, R.T. (18) from Gevgelija, Z.H. (59) from the village of Lokveni, in the Prilep area, A.R. (34) from the village of Rečica e Sipërme in Tetovo, as well as two 16-year-olds from the Gostivar area.
Another person, I.B. (39) from Skopje, was detained for driving despite having an active driving ban.
The Ministry of Interior said that, once the cases have been documented, the relevant criminal reports will be filed. Authorities urged traffic participants to obey the rules and not to drive without passing their driving test, while subject to a driving ban or under the influence of alcohol, with the aim of improving road safety.
