Jean-François Huchet, France’s New Ambassador to Kosovo

France will send Jean-François Huchet as its new ambassador to Kosovo after his appointment was made official by a decree published on August 10, 2026.

Huchet will serve as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Kosovo and is expected to take charge of the diplomatic mission in Pristina at the beginning of September.

The incoming French diplomat is a university professor and economist known for his studies on the economies of China and East Asia. Since 2019, he has served as president of the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (Inalco).

In January 2025, Huchet was also elected vice president of France Universités, an organization representing French universities and higher education institutions.

As an author and researcher of Asian economics, he has focused particularly on China’s economic and political developments, as well as the country’s relations with other Asian states.

In Pristina, Jean-François Huchet will replace Olivier Guérot, who has served as France’s representative in Kosovo since 2022.

France recognized Kosovo’s independence on February 18, 2008.
