Tirana Police have stepped up checks over the past two days on major roads and in various areas of the capital, inspecting hundreds of citizens and vehicles.

The Special Operational Force, in cooperation with the Tirana Traffic Police, has carried out surprise checks to prevent and crack down on illegal activity.
The operation focused on identifying the illegal possession of firearms and narcotics, apprehending wanted persons, and inspecting luxury and armored vehicles, vehicles with windows tinted beyond permitted limits, or vehicles modified in ways that cause disturbing noise.
Over the past 48 hours, 131 vehicles and 213 citizens have been checked and verified.
Five people and vehicles were taken to the Tirana Local Police Directorate for further checks.
Meanwhile, 7 citizens were arrested or prosecuted for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, or violating traffic regulations.
Police services issued a total of 3012 administrative penalties. These were related to driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the speed limit, using a mobile phone while driving, failing to wear a seat belt, aftermarket-tinted windows, failing to give way to citizens, improper overtaking, and other violations of traffic regulations.
In addition, 34 vehicles were impounded for various violations, while 9 vehicle registration documents were confiscated.
Police said the checks will continue without interruption, with the aim of improving public and road safety, preventing illegal activity, and creating a safer environment for all citizens.
