Sulejmani Raises Suspicions of Misuse After DUI’s Silence on Zajas-Drugovë Sewage System

Driton Sulejmani of VLEN, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, has criticised DUI over its lack of response regarding the uncompleted sewage system project in Zajas, for which the European Union funded more than €9 million.

According to him, although the funds were allocated and the implementation deadlines have passed, residents of the area still do not have a sewage system. Sulejmani accused former leaders of a lack of accountability.

He believes that their failure to respond further raises suspicions that European funds may also have been misused.

“The fact that they remain silent only increases suspicions that their hands were in up to their elbows in the European Funds as well. In public, they talk about integration and European standards, but when they need to explain what happened to more than €9 million of European taxpayers’ money, they choose to say nothing. This is how DUI governed for more than two decades. They constantly spoke of Europe, but when it came to European funds, they forgot both the values and the standards. The most shameful part of this scandal is that it concerns Zajas, Ali Ahmeti’s birthplace. If this is how they took care of Zajas, one can imagine how they took care of other Albanian-populated settlements,” Sulejmani said.
