Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Mjöll Frostadóttir stressed that Greenland belongs to its own people and that the island’s residents have no desire to become part of the United States.
She made these remarks ahead of important NATO summit meetings in Ankara, at a time when US President Donald Trump once again repeated his intention to take control of Greenland.

According to Frostadóttir, Trump’s position was not a surprise, given that the American president has repeatedly raised the issue.
“We have been very clear about this. Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland,” she said.
The Icelandic prime minister also expressed optimism, while underlining that discussions and talks are currently continuing within the framework of a formal working group, which should be given the necessary time to deliver results.
Her position comes at a time when Greenland’s status has returned to the center of international discussions following President Trump’s latest comments.
