The temporary easing of US restrictions on the sale of Russian oil has not changed Germany’s policy toward Moscow. German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said Berlin was working with its European partners to draw up new punitive measures against Russia.

The German announcement came after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, following which an agreement was announced to supply markets with oil. According to reports, Washington has approved a six-month exemption from sanctions on Russian oil, which will remain in effect until April 7, 2027, with the aim of easing global fuel shortages.
The decision does not affect the restrictions imposed by Europe. The European Union’s and the United Kingdom’s sanctions on Russian oil and fuel products remain in force.
Meanwhile, Germany has undertaken to release up to 15 million barrels from its strategic reserves, including crude oil, vehicle fuel and heating fuel, in an effort to support market supplies.
The use of these reserves is part of an international plan to address the supply situation, while Berlin remains committed to maintaining economic pressure on Russia.
