Nine people were taken to hospital after a flight from Colombia to New York encountered severe turbulence during the morning. As a result of the incident, the pilots diverted the flight and landed it at Miami International Airport.

Flight AV42, operated by Avianca, had departed from Medellín, Colombia, and was headed for New York’s JFK International Airport.
Authorities at Miami Airport said the aircraft encountered severe turbulence during the journey.
After the emergency landing in Miami, emergency service teams intervened to assist people who had suffered injuries or health problems as a result of the turbulence.
Avianca confirmed to CBS News Miami that a total of six passengers and three crew members required medical treatment.
The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Authorities have not yet released further information about the condition or severity of the injuries suffered by the nine people taken to hospital.
