The news was announced by Iranian state media, which did not provide a specific reason for Paknejad’s resignation. He had headed the Oil Ministry since August 2024.

The resignation comes amid increased pressure on the Iranian economy, as the prolonged conflict between Iran and the United States continues to affect the energy sector.

According to state media, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accepted Paknejad’s resignation and appointed Bovard to the post. Shortly before the resignation was announced, Paknejad had stated that revenues from oil sales continued to enter the country and that, in his view, this process would continue.
