A message published on social media calling for the execution of Rexhep Selimi “as soon as he returns to the Albanian lands” has prompted a reaction from his wife, Shqipe Mehmeti Selimi.
Shqipe Selimi described the statement as an extremely serious matter and called on the State Prosecution to launch an investigation, identify the author of the comment and take the measures provided for by law, reports “Bota sot”.

“Through reports in the print media, I learned today of a comment made public on social media, through which a direct call was made for the execution of my husband, Rexhep Selimi.
As his wife, but also as a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, I consider this case extremely serious. Such a matter must not and cannot be left unaddressed by the responsible institutions.
Neither disagreements, political beliefs nor individual positions can be used to justify public calls for the killing of a person. Freedom of expression cannot serve as a justification for inciting violence.
For this reason, I am publicly addressing the State Prosecution with a request that, within the scope of its powers, it take the necessary steps to investigate the case, identify the person who made the comment and determine any potential criminal liability.
My request is simply for the law to be enforced and for a public call aimed at taking a person’s life to be treated seriously.
Silence in the face of such language, as well as its normalization, is unacceptable. The justice institutions must ensure that such cases are examined in accordance with the law, regardless of whom they are directed against.”
