After meeting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, PDK leader Bedri Hamza said his party still conditions its vote for president on the passage of a bill proposed by PDK.

Hamza said the party wants the bill to receive final approval after two readings. Once it passes, he said, PDK is ready to discuss a solution to the presidential question and cast its votes at the next parliamentary session, on the same day.

“PDK’s demand is that the law be approved in two readings and receive final approval. Then the Democratic Party of Kosovo is ready, on the same day, at the next session, to talk, find a solution for president and cast our votes for president,” Hamza said.

The PDK leader said his talks with Kurti had concluded, but noted that a few days remained in which an agreement could be reached.

“We have finished the talks. Yes, there are still a few days in which an agreement can be reached. I don’t know whether an agreement will happen,” he said.

Hamza stressed that PDK’s position had not changed. He added that the party was not seeking passage of the law solely in its own interests, saying the issue went beyond PDK’s needs.

“In any case, this is our demand, and it is not about what PDK needs. The law goes beyond PDK’s needs and concerns another issue,” the PDK leader said.

Meetings between political leaders are being held in an effort to find a solution to the election of Kosovo’s president. The constitutional deadline for choosing the head of state expires on October 6.
