After his address to the United Nations, US President Donald Trump held a meeting with the leaders of Denmark and Greenland, with whom he signed an important security agreement.

According to Trump, the document was prepared after extensive work and aims to establish a “long-term and fantastic relationship” between the three parties.
Greenland has the status of an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, while primary responsibility for foreign policy and defense lies with Copenhagen.
The details of the agreement have not yet been made fully public. However, during his speech, Trump announced that the United States would build “two very large military bases” in Greenland.
Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, said the agreement addresses Washington’s concerns about foreign adversaries’ advances on the island, while ensuring respect for the rights and powers of Denmark and Greenland.
Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, also expressed optimism about the new document.
“We are signing an agreement that brings the 1951 defense agreement into 2026,” Nielsen said. “We are, have been, and will remain an unwavering friend of the United States and part of the Western Alliance. Your security is our security, and our security is your security. This is a mutually beneficial agreement,” he added.
