Flora Brovina has died at the age of 76. She was a pediatrician, poet and human rights activist, known for her work defending women and children in Kosovo.

During the war in Kosovo, Brovina played an important role in organizing aid for civilians and people affected by violence. In Pristina, she founded and led the Center for the Protection of Women and Children, which provided medical and psychological support to victims of sexual violence and human rights violations.
In 1999, during the NATO bombing campaign, Serbian authorities arrested her and sentenced her to 12 years in prison for “terrorist activity.” Following the intervention of the international community and the withdrawal of Serbian forces from Kosovo, she was released on November 1, 2000.
Flora Brovina joined the Governing Council of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) in June 2002, and in October 2006 she was elected to the party’s leadership. She was re-elected as a member of the Kosovo Assembly in the general elections of 2004, 2007 and 2010.
After the end of the war, Brovina continued her political and social activities. She had been elected as a member of the Kosovo Assembly in 2001 and remained active in promoting the rights of women and children, as well as in Kosovo’s state-building processes.
