The demonstration, organized under the slogan “We Are the People,” was intended to oppose the government’s asylum and mass immigration policies but was blocked by local authorities.
Tensions escalated after participants began displaying extremist symbols, performing Nazi salutes and chanting antisemitic slogans. To bring the situation under control and disperse the crowd, mounted police and special units intervened with batons and trained dogs, while water cannons were also briefly deployed.
Dutch Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel responded immediately, stating: “It is vital that the strongest possible legal measures be taken against this scene.”
The incident once again highlights the tense social and political climate in the country, linked to the debate over managing migration flows in Europe.
