According to QKUM, these were two separate incidents that occurred at different times, both caused by contact with electricity.
The first case was reported at 18:03. A local nurse was at the scene and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but was unable to restore spontaneous circulation.
The Vau i Dejës ambulance was out of service at that moment due to a technical fault. For this reason, an ambulance was dispatched to the area from Shkodra Hospital, arriving at 19:44.
“Resuscitation efforts continued during transport to Shkodra Hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, spontaneous circulation could not be restored and the patient died,” QKUM said in its statement.
The second victim was an electrician who went to the scene a few minutes later to repair the electrical fault. While working, he was also struck by electricity and died.
The call concerning the second case was recorded at 18:53. The person was found with no signs of life during the initial assessment. The second ambulance dispatched from Shkodra arrived at the scene at 19:54, while the case was identified and referred as a Black Code.
QKUM emphasizes that an electric shock is a medical emergency with an extremely high risk to life, as severe forms can cause cardiac arrest and sudden death.
“Beyond any institutional clarification, this remains first and foremost a tragic event that resulted in the loss of two human lives. The National Medical Emergency Center expresses its deep sorrow over this loss and extends its most sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the two victims. In these difficult moments, QKUM shares the families’ grief over the loss of their loved ones,” the statement further said.
