This announcement follows the deal made public on Friday between Washington and Caracas, through which the U.S. gains a leading role in the exploitation of Venezuela’s oil reserves. These reserves are estimated at more than 65 billion barrels.
Through a social media post, Trump said that the refilling of strategic reserves will begin soon. He described the Venezuelan oil as a “gift from Venezuela to the people of the United States.”
The American president also attacked former President Joe Biden, claiming that during his term the Strategic Petroleum Reserve was significantly reduced.
“One of the things I plan to do with the Venezuelan oil is to refill the Strategic National Reserve, which, thanks to ‘Sleepy Joe’ Biden, is almost depleted. The ‘refilling’ process will begin very soon and it is a gift from Venezuela to the people of the United States,” Trump said.
In recent years, U.S. oil reserves have fallen significantly, as they have been used to cope with supply disruptions in global markets and rising fuel prices.
