Tirana Traffic Police issued more than 13,000 fines over the past week as part of checks carried out to strengthen road safety.

During the operations, 32 people were arrested for criminal offenses related to violations of traffic rules, while 75 vehicles were impounded for various infractions.
Particular attention was paid to vehicles causing excessive noise, cases of exceeding the speed limit, as well as driving after consuming alcohol or while intoxicated.
Among the cases identified were two drivers who, after being caught driving while intoxicated, attempted to bribe police officers.
Meanwhile, 19 drivers were penalized for driving under the influence of alcohol.
A total of 4,998 administrative penalties were issued for violations that endanger road safety. Another 7,868 penalties concerned illegal stopping, standing or parking that obstructs traffic. The checks also included motorcycle riders, against whom 1,093 penalties were issued for failing to wear a helmet.
Traffic Police checks will continue on the capital’s main roads. Authorities are calling on drivers to comply with traffic rules, not to drive after consuming alcohol and to exercise maximum caution while traveling on the roads.
