Tahiri: Approval of the Law on the Specialist Chambers should mark the beginning of a new commitment

Besnik Tahiri, head of the Alliance Parliamentary Group, has called on the Kosovo Assembly to vote on the Law on the Specialist Chambers in both readings at tomorrow’s session. He stressed that consideration of the law should not turn into a political confrontation.

In a post, Tahiri called for the second reading to include a detailed review of whether the Legislation Committee had left out any issues. If necessary, he said, amendments should be introduced to improve the legal text.

“Tomorrow, there should be no games with either reading,” Tahiri declared.

He appealed for the issue to be handled responsibly, without turning it into a political competition to determine who appears or speaks more.

According to him, the law’s approval should not be considered the conclusion, but rather the first step in a broader commitment by Kosovo’s institutions to protect the history and the liberation war.

“Tomorrow should be a new beginning,” he stressed.

Tahiri called on Kosovo to demonstrate seriousness over the next two years regarding the judicial process in The Hague. He proposed establishing an institutional, sustainable and responsible approach to preserving the history and truth about the liberation war.

“Tomorrow should not be the end of a debate, but the beginning of greater state efforts for the liberation fighters,” Tahiri concluded.
