The government’s offer to increase the monthly student meal subsidy to 4,500 denars is still being reviewed by student parliaments.
The proposal was made after the latest meeting between student representatives, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Education Minister Vesna Janevska.

Janevska said the parties had reached an agreement in principle, as the change would be in their mutual interest.
“In principle, I believe we have an agreement. I am now waiting for the students’ response, and I have no doubt they will accept it, allowing this government to continue supporting them, to the satisfaction of both sides. We are committed to young people,” said Vesna Janevska, the education minister.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said he was waiting for the students’ document or position, which had been expected to be sent shortly after the meeting.
“We presented the government’s proposal and considered it significantly more favorable than the current arrangement, which they also agreed with. We are now waiting for a response. We were told that we would receive, by that evening, the version the students would share with their fellow students. That did not happen. Today is the second day, and we hope to receive it,” said Hristijan Mickoski, the prime minister.
According to the calculations, the value of the weekly meal allowance would rise from 140 to 180 denars. The proposed system would allow students to use the funds through a dedicated digital service in the “M – uslugi” app, replacing the current payment cards.
The possibility of students receiving additional discounts on food from vendors participating in the system is also being considered. The proposed change aims to ensure the funds are spent only on food and not on other products. /Alsat.mk.
