Data from the State Statistical Office show that births in North Macedonia continue to be distributed unevenly from one region to another, with the highest concentration in urban areas and especially in the Skopje Region.
According to official statistics, 60.2 percent of all births were recorded in urban areas, while the Skopje Region alone accounts for 41.6 percent of the total. On the other hand, the Eastern Region has the lowest share nationwide, with only 6.1 percent of births.

The same data highlight that natural population growth continues to be negative both in cities and in villages. In urban areas, 9.535 births and 12.902 deaths were recorded, bringing natural population growth to -3.367 inhabitants.
In rural areas as well, the balance remains negative, with 6.315 births and 7.385 deaths recorded, resulting in natural population growth of -1.070 inhabitants.
These statistics reaffirm the continuing trend of declining birth rates and an aging population, while the gap between the country’s regions remains evident.
