Special Court Acquits Majlinda Bufi, Although SPAK Had Sought 1 Year and 6 Months in Prison for the Mayor of Roskovec

Majlinda Bufi, the mayor of Roskovec, has been acquitted by the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), after being charged by SPAK with using public office for political activity.

The ruling was issued by judge Irena Gjoka, who found that during the judicial review it was not proven that Bufi had committed the criminal offense of which she was accused.

Throughout the entire process, Majlinda Bufi was investigated and tried while remaining at liberty. Earlier, in its closing argument, the Special Prosecution had sought a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison.

According to SPAK’s request, due to the abbreviated trial, the sentence would be reduced to 1 year in prison. The prosecution had also requested the suspension of the execution of this sentence and that the mayor be placed on probation for 2 years.

In the end, GJKKO dismissed the charge brought by SPAK and ruled that Majlinda Bufi was not guilty.
