The incident occurred on Sunday morning, shortly after 2:30 a.m., at the Schachen racecourse. In addition to the victim, five other people were injured.
According to Aargau police, the authorities believe the suspect acted alone, while his arrest was carried out overnight, at around 1:00 a.m. The arrest was made public on Monday.
Investigators are working to establish the exact circumstances of the attack, the motive and how it unfolded. Preliminary reports indicate that the shooting may have taken place in two different areas, using a 9 mm pistol and an assault rifle.
Initially, several witnesses suspected that two perpetrators might have been involved in the incident. However, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that both weapons were used by a single person.
Two of the injured people are Italian nationals Fabrizio Grande and Lorenzo Lombardo. According to Italian media, they were treated for minor injuries and later left the hospital.
Maria Spinelli’s family is awaiting the completion of the legal procedures and autopsy before traveling to Switzerland. The investigation is ongoing, while the authorities are expected to release further details in the coming days.
