Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has reacted to the killing in Saranda, expressing concern over the worsening crime situation in the city.

According to her, clashes between two rival groups began in July 2025 and have resulted in four serious incidents, including shootings, a killing with explosives and the use of firearms in the heart of the city.
Zhupa asked the State Police what measures it is taking to put an end to this cycle of retaliation. She warned that Saranda residents cannot wait for a fifth incident or until the next victim is an innocent citizen.
The MP stressed that a passerby was also wounded today and wished them a speedy recovery.
In her statement, Zhupa said the situation can no longer be treated merely as a matter of crime statistics, but as a failure of public safety in Saranda.
She criticized the State Police leadership, stressing that statements made after incidents or announcements of criminal proceedings are not enough, while crimes that have been foreshadowed and are expected are neither solved nor prevented due to incompetence.
“The police must intervene before a crime occurs, rather than showing up only after it has been committed,” Zhupa said.
According to the MP, Saranda cannot remain under the control of gangs, guns and retaliatory attacks. She stressed that citizens have the right to live in safety, while the state has an obligation to ensure it.
In conclusion, Zhupa described the responsible authorities as failures and called for a complete overhaul of the Saranda Police leadership.
