According to Ukrainian police, the attack was carried out in the early hours of Saturday with five guided aerial bombs dropped on residential areas. Regional authorities said that 11 civilians had been killed, including three children.

Rescue teams are continuing to search through the rubble amid fears that other people may be trapped. An AFP correspondent reported seeing emergency services pulling people from the collapsed buildings. Zaporizhzhia, located just a few dozen kilometers from the front line, has been repeatedly hit by Russian forces.

The attack came a day after a meeting in Miami between representatives of the United States, Ukraine and Europe, where the revival of peace negotiations was discussed. While diplomatic efforts aim to end the war, attacks on civilians continue. US-mediated initiatives have yet to produce an agreement.
