The Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia announced that on 24, 25 and 26 August 2026, police officers from all sectors for internal affairs conducted regular checks on the country’s roads. During this period, a total of 1,621 payment orders were issued, while 456 of the violations involved drivers who exceeded the permitted speed limit.

Forty-three people were detained for reckless driving. Of these, two were deprived of their liberty for driving under the influence of alcohol, 20 for driving without a licence and two because they were already subject to a driving ban.
According to police data, 19 vehicles were seized during the same period under Article 300-b of the Criminal Code. In addition, 385 violations for illegal parking were recorded, and 28 sanctions were imposed for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Under the Law on Road Traffic Safety, 159 motorcycle riders were penalised for failing to wear protective helmets. A further 105 road users were sanctioned for not wearing seat belts.
Meanwhile, in accordance with the Law on Vehicles, 17 vehicles were removed from traffic after being found to be unregistered, while seven others were removed due to technical irregularities. Four drivers were sanctioned for failing to comply with the requirements governing the tinting of vehicle windows with film.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that road checks would continue in the coming days, urging all road users to comply with the rules and contribute to safer traffic.
