Data reported by local media showed that within just a few hours, Toronto recorded more rainfall than the average amount for the entire month of September.

Paul Johnson, the city’s general manager of services, described the situation as an event that could be called “the storm of the century.” According to him, between 100 and 110 millimeters of rain fell in some Toronto neighborhoods on Wednesday evening.

Winds reached speeds of up to 84 kilometers per hour and damaged several infrastructure facilities, including a stadium with 50,000 seats. Air transport was also disrupted.

The electricity provider in the province of Ontario said that more than 50,000 households in the Toronto area were left without power. Meanwhile, emergency crews are continuing work to clear the roads and reopen them to traffic.
