His daughter, Florie Selmani, confirmed the news in a Facebook post.
“With great joy and gratitude to God, we wish to inform you that today, September 21, 2026, our father, Osman Selmani, was released from detention in Belgrade. We have now met our father at the Merdare border crossing. After so many days of anguish, longing and waiting, this is one of the happiest moments for our family,” her announcement said.
Selmani was arrested at the Mutivoda border crossing on suspicion of “war crimes.”
According to Serbia’s allegations, on June 14, 1999, in Pristina’s “Sofalia” neighborhood, he, together with several members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, killed the couple Vladimir and Persa Stanisavljeviq.
Selmani’s family members, meanwhile, have stated that when the crime is alleged to have been committed, the entire family was in Macedonia after being expelled by Serbian forces.
