Nebi Hoxha appeals for evidence that Osman Selmani was a refugee in Cegrane during the war

Entrepreneur Nebi Hoxha has sought the assistance of individuals and organizations that operated at the Refugee Camp in Cegrane, Gostivar, in 1999, to secure evidence that Osman Selmani stayed there during the period from April to June 1999.

Hoxha reacted following the arrest of the Kosovar citizen by Serbian authorities on July 1 at the Mutivode border crossing, as Selmani was returning from his hometown, Telegrafi reports.

According to his family, Selmani is currently being held by the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade. His relatives consider the charges he faces to be untrue and unfounded.

In a Facebook post, Hoxha said that at the time Serbia claims Selmani committed war crimes, he was a refugee at the Cegrane camp.

“Osman Selmani, a citizen from Pristina, is being held in custody in Serbia on war crimes charges, in proceedings that his family and supporters consider unfounded. According to all the information we have, during the period from April to June 1999, when the events for which he is accused are alleged to have taken place, Osman Selmani was a refugee at the Refugee Camp in Cegrane, Gostivar,” Hoxha wrote.

He called on activists and organizations that were engaged at the time to help establish the facts, so that Selmani can be cleared of what he describes as unjust charges.

“Therefore, we seek the assistance of everyone who worked with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, the Red Cross of the Republic of Macedonia, or other humanitarian organizations at the Refugee Camp in Cegrane during 1999. If you have lists, documents, photographs, or knowledge proving that Osman Selmani was a refugee at the camp during the period from April to June 1999, please contact us. Any information could be crucial in proving the truth and helping defend him against unjust charges. Please share this appeal. Thank you! #IFRC, #NATO, #OSCE, #IOM, #UNICEF, #Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), #Caritas, #MercyCorps, #CARE, #OXFAM,” his appeal said.

The court case against Selmani is expected to be held in Belgrade, while his family has announced that it will pursue all legal avenues to prove his innocence. /Telegrafi
