According to a warning issued by air traffic controllers, such actions threaten not only the hundreds of passengers on board, but also residents of the areas surrounding the airport.
Controllers suspect that in many cases the perpetrators are young people and teenagers who may not understand the consequences that directing a laser at an aircraft can have.
The Border Police, which operates in the airport premises, has also become involved in addressing this phenomenon.
Police officials say these cases are being taken seriously because they pose a risk to aviation safety.
Anyone who uses a laser against aircraft may face serious legal consequences, including a prison sentence of between one and ten years.
Air traffic controllers report that KFOR helicopters have also been targeted by lasers. In some cases, KFOR personnel have managed to identify the laser users and, according to the controllers, have landed near them before initiating the relevant procedures.
