The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, announced that he held a meeting with the European Union Special Envoy for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Peter Sørensen. The discussions focused on the progress of the dialogue process, the situation in the Western Balkan region, and other current issues of mutual importance.

Kurti reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to respecting the Constitution and the legislation in force, ensuring equal treatment for all citizens and full representation of communities in state institutions. He argued that the mass resignations of Serb officials in the north four years ago were aimed at damaging the multi-ethnic nature of institutions. He further noted that the justice system must reflect multi-ethnicity, while at the same time guaranteeing its independence and quality.
In a post after the meeting, Kurti wrote that he received Sørensen in his office, where they discussed the process he mediates, the situation in the Western Balkans and current topics. He emphasized that Kosovo not only affirms, but is determined to implement constitutionality and legality, civic equality and inclusiveness.
According to the Prime Minister, employees of the Republic’s institutions must come from all communities and be characterized by professional skills and ethical integrity, including within the ranks of the police, judiciary and prosecution. He added that the simultaneous resignations in northern Mitrovica four years ago had the clear aim of disrupting the multi-ethnic structure of the country’s democratic system.
The right path now, he underlined, is the one defined by the Constitution and laws, which in the case of the judicial system means not only preserving ethnic diversity, but also ensuring independence and high standards of justice.
