Kosovo Police clarifies measures taken during protest in Pristina

Kosovo Police has provided clarification regarding the measures taken in connection with the protest held in Pristina against the sentencing of former KLA leaders. According to the police, the additional checks at the entrances to the capital’s roads were intended to prevent dangerous driving that jeopardizes the safety of road users.

In a statement dated September 19, 2026, the police recalled that after the protest held in Pristina at 21:00 on September 18, 2026, several people had paraded in vehicles, driven dangerously and climbed on top of cars. According to the police, these actions had endangered road users and continued into the late hours after midnight.

To ensure the smooth running of the protest held in Pristina on September 19, 2026, also at 21:00, as well as to maintain traffic flow and prevent possible accidents, the police said they were compelled to step up measures at entrances to the capital’s roads.

The police stressed that they did not intend to prevent or obstruct citizens from taking part in the protest, nor to impede vehicles being driven in accordance with the rules. They said the measures were aimed at dangerous driving and people who violate the law and road traffic regulations.

Finally, Kosovo Police reiterated that it recognizes citizens’ right to peaceful and democratic protest and thanked them for their cooperation.
