KFOR: Lasting stability in Kosovo requires a political solution

KFOR announced the visit to Kosovo by General Alexus G. Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), who was received by the mission’s commander, Major General Roberto Vergori.

During the visit, they discussed the KFOR optimization process, which is based on a joint assessment of the improvements observed in the security situation.

According to the announcement, any changes in the number and composition of KFOR troops will be carried out gradually and carefully. These adjustments will be based on ongoing assessments from the ground and will be reversible if significant security developments emerge that could undermine local security or regional stability.

During his stay in Kosovo, General Grynkewich and Major General Vergori held meetings with key representatives of Kosovo’s institutions, as well as with representatives of the Serb List.

These meetings once again conveyed the position that long-term security cannot be guaranteed without a political solution, inclusive dialogue and cooperation.

The NATO officials’ visit concluded at the Gračanica Monastery, where they met with religious representatives.

KFOR stressed that it will continue to be an unwavering guarantor of stability and contribute to a safe and secure environment, as well as freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo.

The mission will fulfill this role in accordance with its long-term United Nations mandate, at all times and impartially.
