The Greek side suspended operations from 05:00 to 09:00, preventing people and vehicles from crossing during this period.

Some travelers, despite completing procedures at the Albanian checkpoint and leaving Albanian territory, were forced to wait for the Greek customs post to reopen before continuing their journey to Greece.

The protest was organized by the Greek customs officers’ union. The employees are demanding more staff, better working conditions and pay, as well as the fulfillment of commitments made by the Greek government regarding their treatment within the public administration.

According to the customs officers, insufficient staffing and the heavy workload are hindering the proper operation of customs services and border crossing points.

They have warned that they will take further protest action in the coming days if the Greek authorities do not consider and implement their demands.

Traffic at Kapshtica is expected to return to normal after the protest period ends. Travelers have been advised to factor in delays caused at the border.
