Fire engulfs hills near Apollonia as thick smoke blankets the area

This afternoon, a new fire broke out in the hilly area near Apollonia National Archaeological Park, causing concern in the surrounding areas of Fier.

The flames spread rapidly across the hills and engulfed a considerable area, as can also be seen in footage from the scene.

Thick grey and black smoke blanketed the surrounding area and was visible from the main road and neighbouring villages.

The fire poses a serious threat to residents’ crops, as well as to the archaeological park itself.

Meanwhile, an aerial intervention has been requested to extinguish the flames in the affected area.
