The victims included two children, aged 6 and 9, their 42-year-old father, Jean-Paul Monnot, and his mother-in-law, who was the children’s grandmother.
Preliminary investigations and reports by local media have raised suspicions that the children’s father was responsible for the killings.
According to the French newspaper “L’Est Républicain,” Monnot is suspected of using a firearm to shoot his family members before shooting himself.
Before taking his own life, the 42-year-old reportedly filmed the incident and sent the video to his wife, from whom he was separating. In an accompanying message, he allegedly wrote: “This is what you deserve.”
The bodies were discovered on the evening of September 2 at the campsite where the family had parked their vehicles. One of the victims was found inside a van, while the other three were found at the campsite.
French police have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The couple were in the process of divorcing and, according to sources cited by French media, had been building a house before their separation.
