Last night, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Mexico’s western coast, according to a statement from the country’s National Seismological Service.
According to the authorities, the seismic tremor had a focal depth of just 5 kilometers, while the epicenter was recorded at sea, about 116 kilometers southwest of the city of Guasave, in the state of Sinaloa.

Due to its shallow depth, the earthquake was felt in several areas near the coast; however, so far no deaths, injuries, or significant material damage have been reported.
Mexican authorities are monitoring the situation and continuing checks in the affected areas, while no tsunami warning has been issued so far.
